By now everyone participating in the 27thAnnual Army Ten-Miler should already have their race number and packet. Whether you are a Soldier or a military family member or a civilian, the camaraderie and patriotism was in the air today. For some it is their first race and others their second or greater. Some came along for moral support and encouragement.
There was laughter, conversation, and fellowship during the pasta dinner this evening. It was my pleasure to share a table with fellow Soldiers that I work with, but also with members of the Golden Knights. What an honor to share not only past Army Ten-Miler experiences, but also stories of life and military experiences.
There was no distinction between civilian or military nor was there separation of branch of service. I’ve often heard the expression, “One Team – One Fight”. The events surrounding pre-race day gave meaning to this expression. Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, and civilians participated in the days’ events and will also be sharing in the Ten-Miler experience tomorrow morning. It’s about competing even if it is against yourself and improving your own time from years past. It’s about accomplishing something that seemed unreachable and setting new goals. It is camaraderie, determination, support, team work, and resilience. It’s about celebrating the spirit of the Soldier.
