Army Reserve Career Counselor of the Year
Sgt.1st Class Keith A. Johnson resides in Manchester, New Hampshire. He has been assigned as an AGR Army Reserve Career Counselor assigned to 1st Battalion, Area 7 since April 2011.
In June of 1992, Sgt. 1st Class Johnson joined the Massachusetts Army National Guard and assigned to A-Co 1-182 Infantry (Mechanized). In 1995, during the Battalion Commander’s Squad Competition, the squad Sgt. 1st Class Johnson was assigned to won the competition and Sgt. 1st Class Johnson achieved the highest individual score of any competitor. Sgt. 1st Class Johnson stayed with A-Co until July of 2000, when he transferred to Charlie Company 1 — 181 Infantry (Light). During this time, Sgt. 1st Class Johnson was also assigned to the Massachusetts Army National Guard’s Counterdrug Support. He served as a primary trainer for Operation Challenge, as well as the lone coordinator for Leadership Challenge.
In August 2001, Sgt. 1st Class Johnson deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of Operation Joint Forge. In August 2003, Sgt. 1st Class Johnson deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. In February 2005, Sgt. 1st Class Johnson transferred to the 1st and 195th Regional Training Institute, Center Strafford, NH, and served as an Officer Candidate School Instructor (TAC). In September of that year, he volunteered and mobilized for relief efforts in New Orleans, Louisiana. In February 2006, Sgt. 1st Class Johnson transferred to D-Co 1-181 IN (L) and was also assigned to Massachusetts National Guard Joint Force Headquarters (MANG JFHQ) as the Force Protection NCO. Later that year, he assumed the responsibilities of the Anti-Terrorism Program Manager. In April of 2007, Sgt. 1st Class Johnson deployed to Iraq and was assigned to Protective Service Detail of the United States Ambassador to Iraq, In March 2010, Sgt. 1st Class Johnson transferred to the Army Reserve and was assigned as an IDT to 1st Battalion, Army Reserve Careers Division, Area 7 in Londonderry, NH.
Sgt.1st Class Johnson has completed Primary Leadership Development Course, Mountain Warfare School Winter Phase, Mountain Warfare School Summer Phase (Honor Graduate), Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course Phase 18,I1, Total Army Instructor Trainer Course, TAC Qualification Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Physical Security Basic Course, Security Engineering Course, Anti-Terrorism Level II Unit Advisor Course, Air Assault, Combat Lifesaver, FBCB2, Army Reserve Career Counselor Course, and Small Group Instructor.
His awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal (4th award), Army Achievement Medal (4th award), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal (4th award), National Defense Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global war on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (w/silver hourglass, M device, 3rd award), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (3rd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (3), NATO Medal, Expert Infantry Badge, Air Assault Badge, and Career Counselor Badge.
Sgt. 1st Class Johnson has volunteered at several military charities throughout New England. He attends Southern New Hampshire University pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management and currently has a 3.86 GPA and scheduled to graduate in February 2014.
Sgt.1st Class Johnson is married and they have two children.
