Army Reserve Career Counselor of the Year
Sgt. 1st Class Danilo B. Freitas is assigned as the Army Reserve Career Counselor for 2nd Battalion Army Reserve Careers Division stationed in Coraopolis, PA since February 2012. His duties include transitioning Soldiers from the Individual Ready Reserve to Troop Program Units, accessing Warrant Officer Candidates, assisting units with Retention and Strength Programs,’ and unit mobilization and demobilization.
He entered the Army in May of 1997 as a Food Service Specialist (92G).
While assigned to the 2/8 CAV, 1st CAV DIV, Fort Hood, TX. He completed as 6 months deployment to Bosnia in support of KFOR 4 Peace Keeping Mission. In February 2001, Sgt. 1st Class Danilo B. Freitas was assigned to 101st MI BN, 1st INF DIV, Wurzburg, Germany. While assigned to 101St MI BN, he served as a Team Leader for the DFAC Section for deployment in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2004-2005, in FOB Danger, Tikrit, Iraq. Shortly after the deployment, he was assigned to 506th Quarter Master Company, Fort Lee, VA for deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom, 2005-200 6¬in Camp Rawha, Iraq, where he served as an Assistant Joint Distribution Center NCOIC.
He was promoted to Staff Sergeant in June 2008 and assumed the duties of an Observer Controller Trainer (OC/T) for the 1st 311th RGT, 189TH INF, 15T Army East until he re-classified his MOS to be an Army Reserve Career Counselor (79V) on IDT in December 2010.
Sgt. 1st Class Danilo B. Freitas has completed the Food Service Specialist Course, Primary Leadership Course, Total Army Retention Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Army Basic Instructor Course, Retention and Transition Noncommissioned Officers Course, Structured Self Development level 3, Structured Self, Senior Leaders Course.
His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with 2 bronze oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal with 3 bronze oak leaf cluster, Good Conduct Medal with 2 knot clasp, National Defense Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expedition Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Offers Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Nato Medal, Marksmanship Badge for rifle and a Career Counselor Badge.
Sgt. 1st Class Danilo B. Freitas has participated in several competitions; competed and won the Fort Hood Food Service Specialist of the Year, 2000-2001. Competed and won the1st INF DIV, Germany, Food Service Specialist of the Year, 2002-2003. Competed and finished as a runner up in the USAEUR Food Service Specialist of the Year 2002-2003.
He has been married to his wife for 17 years, and has three children. He has completed a Bachelor’s degree in Information Management and Communication.
