Army Reserve Career Counselor of the Year
Sgt.1st Class Delano R. Porter is assigned as an Army Reserve Career Counselor (ARCC) for 10th Battalion, Army Reserve Careers Division (ARCD). He has been assigned since February 2008. His primary duties are to reenlist Army Reserve Soldiers within his assigned units, transition and affiliate Reserve Component Soldiers within the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) and Select Reserve (SELRES), prospect for Army Reserve Officers and Warrant Officers, recover Unsatisfactory Participants, provide Troop Program Unit (TPU) career management, and support the Transition Assistance Program. His area of responsibility covers Terre Haute and Lafayette, Indiana for TPU support and the Battalion footprint of Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio for transition and affiliation support of IRR Soldiers.
Sgt.1st Class Delano R. Porter entered the Army Reserve in May of 2000 as a Petroleum Supply Specialist with the 380th QM CO in Terre Haute, IN. He attended Basic Training at Fort Jackson, SC where he was named “Outstanding Soldier of the Cycle”. He attended Military Occupational School at Fort Lee, VA and earned the Distinguished Honor Grad. He served as a Pump Station Operator and Foreman with the 380th QM CO from 2000-2008. In November of 2005 he was cross-leveled to the 1008th QM CO as a Shower, Laundry, and Clothing Repair Team Chief. His assignments include a 12 month deployment for Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006 to 2007 with the 1008th QM CO out of Woodriver, IL. In February of 2008 Sgt.1st Class Delano R. Porter transferred to the Army Reserve Careers Division.
Sgt.1st Class Delano R. Porter has completed the Primary Leadership Development Course, Equal Opportunity Representative Course, the Army Reserve Career Counselor Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Transition NCO Course, Battle Staff Phase I, 79V Senior Leaders Course, and Master Resilience Training Course. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology (Summa Cum Laude) with a Minor in Psychology from Indiana State University where he graduated from the University Honors Program with a 4.0 GPA.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Unit Citation, Meritorious Service Award, Army Achievement Medal (3), Army Good Conduct Medal (2), Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Bar (2), Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Army Service Ribbon, Drivers Badge and Career Counselor Badge.
Sgt.1st Class Porter is married and they have three daughters. He is a member of Maryland Community Church, Junior Achievement, and coaches youth basketball and soccer. He plans to begin his Masters of Science in Criminal Justice in an accelerated program within the next year.
