Army Reserve Career Counselor of the Year

Sgt.1st Class Charles Minnick is an Active Guard Reserve Career Counselor stationed in Austin, Texas, assigned to 12th Battalion, headquartered in Grand Prairie, TX.

He entered the active Army in February 2002 where he was assigned to the 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, TX as a Cannon Crewmember. While assigned to the 4th Infantry Division’s 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery, Sgt.1st Class Minnick was deployed to Iraq in April of 2003.

After returning to the United States Sgt.1st Class Minnick was among 30 soldiers selected to stand up Alpha Battery, 2nd Battalion, 77th Field Artillery. In 2005 Sgt.1st Class Minnick deployed to Iraq once more. After redeploying Sgt.1st Class Minnick was transferred to 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery.

During this time on Active Duty Sgt.1st Class Minnick served as Howitzer Driver, Number One Man, Gunner, Ammunition Team Chief, Howitzer Section Chief, Training NCO, and Personal Security Escort. In 2007 Sgt.1st Class Minnick was selected by the Department of the Army to serve as a Recruiter. In 2010 Sgt.1st Class Minnick transferred into the Inactive Ready Reserve.

In 2010 Sgt.1st Class Minnick joined the Army Reserve and was assigned to the Army Reserve Careers Division, 12th Battalion, Area 4. Sgt.1st Class Minnick served as an Army Reserve Career Counselor. In January 2011, Sgt.1st Class Minnick was selected to serve as an Active Guard Reserve Career Counselor and was assigned to San Marcos, Texas. Sgt.1st Class Minnick recently transferred to Austin, Texas.

Sgt.1st Class Minnick has completed the Field Artillery Basic Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Basic Recruiters Course, Army Reserve Career Counselor Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, and the Senior Leadership Course.

His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal (2nd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary and Service Medals, NCO Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Glen E. Morrel Award, Army Recruiter’s Badge with 3 Sapphires, Combat Action Badge, Driver’s badge and Career Counselor Badge.

Sgt.1st Class Minnick is married and they have a 5-year-old son.
