Army Reserve Career Counselor of the Year
Sgt. 1st Class Arnaldo Caban-Cruz is currently assigned to 5th Battalion, Army Reserve Careers Division, Area 5, as an Active Guard/Reserve, Army Reserve Career Counselor. He provides retention support to several units of the 1st Mission Support Command with a total retention support population of 422 Soldiers.
Graduating high school in 1987, Caban-Cruz has completed two years toward his goal of achieving a bachelor’s degree.
He enlisted in the United States Army Reserve September 3, 1991. During his first assignment in the Regular Army, he was assigned to the US Army Medical Department Activity at Ft. Polk, Louisiana where he served as a Psychiatric Specialist. In 1995, he was assigned to the United Nations Command, Joint Security Area, Demilitarized Zone, Korea, where he served as a Personnel Administration Specialist and was promoted to Sgt. He served as the Personnel Sergeant for the 720th Military Police Battalion, Ft. Hood and for 7th Signal Brigade, Mannheim, Germany from 1997 and 1998 respectively. In 2001, he relocated to Orlando, FL. where he served as a reservist in the role of Personnel Administrative SOT with the 348th REGT, Camp Blanding, FL, and later that year for the 143rd Transportation Command where he was promoted to SSG. In 2003, he transferred to the 329th Chemical Company where he served as a Chemical Non-Commissioned Officer and was promoted to Sgt. 1st Class. In 2005, he was accepted into the AGR program and was assigned to the 4219th US Army Hospital, Picatinny Arsenal N.J where he served as their Human Resources Non-Commissioned Officer. In 2008, he was assigned to the Human Resources Command, St. Louis, Missouri and he served as a Career manager.
Caban-Cruz military education includes; the Psychiatric Specialist Course; Personnel Administrative Specialist Course; War or Leadership Course; SIDPERS Supervisor Course; Basic Non-commissioned Officer Course; Chemical Operations Specialist Course; Army Reserve Readiness Training Center Basic Pay Course; Unit Administrator Basic Course; Advance Non-commissioned Officer Course; Career Manager Course and Army Reserve Career Counselor Course.
His awards and decorations include; Army Commendation Medal (6); Army Achievement Medal (4); Good Conduct Medal (4); Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal; National Defense Service Ribbon with bronze star; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Professional Development Ribbon (3); Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon (2); Career Counselor Badge.
