Region 3 Career Counselor of the Year
Sgt. 1st Class Lourdes A. Whitener is an Army Reserve Career Counselor serving with Region 3 at Fort Lee, VA. SFC Whitener started her assignment as a Career Counselor in February 2008. Prior to her current assignment, she served as a Career Counselor IDT soldier.
Sgt. 1st Class Whitener entered the Active Duty Army in June 1988. She attended Basic Training at Fort McClellan, Alabama and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, VA. SFC Whitener served over 9 years on Active duty with the following assignments: 16th Field Service Corp, Fort Lee, VA where she supported Hurricane Andrews Humanitarian Relief and Operation Bright Star Egypt Mission. She also served with the 473rd Quartermaster Company at Camp Kyle, Korea. In June of 1998, she left Active Duty and entered the IRR. She was recalled to active duty for one year to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Sgt.1st Class Whitener completed the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, Fabric Repairer Course, Retention and Transition Course, Equal Opportunity Representative Course, Combat Lifesaver Course, Field Sanitation Course, Unit Alcohol and Drug Coordinator Certification Course and Duty Appointed Reenlistment Noncommissioned Officer Course.
Sgt.1st Class Whitener’s awards and decorations include: Army Commendation Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, Reserve Component Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal 2nd award, NCO Professional Development Ribbon Numeral 3, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and the Career Counselor Badge.
Sgt. 1st Class Whitener has completed her Associate Science Degree in Information and Computer Science.
