Region 5 Career Counselor of the Year
Sgt. 1st Class Nitza M. Rivera is an Army Reserve Career Counselor assigned to Region 5 in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico. Prior to her assignment in Puerto Rico Sgt. 1st Class Rivera was assigned to the 77th Regional Readiness Command in Fort Totten, NY and assigned to Fort Tilden, NY and Fort Wadsworth, NY
She entered active duty in 1992 as a Dental Specialist with assignments in Schweinfurt, Germany, West Point Academy and Fort Drum, NY, where she earned the MEDDAC/DENTAC Soldier of the year. Sgt. 1st Class Rivera volunteered for Recruiting Duty and served with the Baltimore Recruiting Battalion where she earned the Gold Recruiter Badge.
Sgt. 1st Class Rivera has completed the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, Army Reserve Retention Course, Army and Army Reserve Recruiting Course, Dental Specialist Course, Preventive Dentistry Course, Equal Employment Opportunity Advisor Course and Unit Drug and Alcohol Courses.
Her awards include the Army Superior Unit Award, Army Commendation Medal with silver oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal with 2 oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal 4th award, National Defense Medal with Bronze Star, Global War on Terror Medal, Army Recruiter Gold Badge and the Career Counselor Badge.
Sgt. 1st Class Rivera has completed an Associates Degree in Applied Management with Central Texas College. She will attend Columbian Southern University to complete her Bachelor’s in Business Management.
