Career Counselor of the Year
Sgt. 1st Class Benjamin L. Linkous is an Army Reserve Career Counselor, serving in an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) status, assigned to Lynchburg, Virginia. Prior to accepting the AGR position, he worked for Medi Home Health and Hospice in Pulaski, Virginia and assigned as a Battle Assembly, Army Reserve Career Counselor in Dublin, Virginia.
Linkous entered the Army in June 1994. He served in the Active Army from 1994 to 1998 as a Tank Turret Repairer with assignments in Ft Hood, TX; Camp Garry Owen, Korea; and Ft. Sill, OK. As a Reserve Soldier, Linkous was assigned to the 676th Medical Detachment as a Combat Medic and Practical Nurse.
In 2003, Linkous was assigned to the 11320th in Dublin, VA as a Drill Sergeant. He performed Drill Sergeant Duties in Ft. Jackson, SC; Ft. Benning, GA; and Ft. Knox, KY. He was chosen to go to Iraq in 2005 as Military Transition Team member supporting the 2″ Battalion, 1st Brigade, 1st Division of the Iraqi Army. He served in the role of Senior Medic, S2 Liaison, and the First Company Commander mentor. In 2010, Linkous requested to go to the 3rd Battalion, Army Reserve Careers Division as a Career Counselor Battle Assembly soldier with duty in Dublin, VA. He was selected for AGR status in November 2010.
Sgt. 1st Class Linkous has completed the Primary Leadership Development Course; Basic Non-commissioned Officers Course; Advanced Non-commissioned Officers Course; Career Counselor Course and the United States Army Drill Sergeant Course. He was awarded First Honor Graduate for Drill Sergeant School and the Career Counselor Course.
Linkous awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Drill Sergeant Badge, Career Counselor Badge, and Combat Medic Badge.
He has a Bachelors Degree in Multidisciplinary Studies from Liberty University and is currently pursuing his Masters of Science in Accounting with an expected graduation date of December 2011.
Linkous is married and has three children.
