Sgt. 1st Class Klaffka enlisted in the United States Army as a 98C; Warfare Signals Intelligence Analyst in November 1983; she completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Jackson; South Carolina and Advanced Individual Training at Goodfellow; AFB in San Angelo; Texas. Upon completion of AIT; Klaffka continued on to her first duty station as an Intelligence Analyst at Field Station Kunia; Hawaii and then on to the National Security Agency; Fort Meade; Maryland. She served on Active Duty until May 1990.

In 1993 she joined the National Guard as a 29N; Switching Central Repairer and served with 731st Maintenance Company; Newton; North Carolina. In 1999 she entered the Army Reserve as a Drill Sergeant; and served with Co. E; 3rd Battalion; 518th Regiment; and Hickory; North Carolina.

She entered the AGR program as a 79V; Army Reserve Career Counselor (ARCC) in January 2003. She was stationed with the Defense Information Systems Agency in Gettysburg; Pennsylvania where she served as the Army Reserve Career Counselor (ARCC) for two years before transferring to become the ARCC for the 321st Military Police Company in Chambersburg; Pennsylvania. In 2008, she volunteered and was selected to serve with the United States Army Central Coalition Forces Land Component Command in Kuwait and Afghanistan. Klaffka is currently assigned to the 12th Battalion, Army Reserve Careers Division (ARCD), Area 8, with duty at the United States Army Reserve Aviation Support Facility, Conroe, Texas where she serves as the ARCC for the 158th Aviation Regiment, which is one of only two Reserve aviation units in the United States. She is responsible for approximately 500 Soldiers within the 158th Aviation Regiment.

Klaffka has completed the Warrior Leaders Course; Advanced Leaders Course; Senior Leaders Course; Army Reserve Career Counselor Course; Army Reserve Drill Sergeant Course; Switching Central Repairer Course; and the Warfare Intelligence Analyst Course.

Klaffka’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal; Good Conduct Medal; Army National Guard Component Achievement Medal; National Defense Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Humanitarian Service Medal; Army Professional Development Ribbon with the numeral 3; Army Service Ribbon; Army Overseas Ribbon; Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon; Drill Sergeant Badge and the Career Counselor Badge.

Klaffka is one class from completing her Associates in Business from Columbia Southern University. She has two children, a son, who lives in Pennsylvania and a daughter who lives in Texas and attends the Art Institute of Houston.

Sgt. 1st Class Klaffka is a an excellent Career Counselor because she truly believes it is what she does as a Career Counselor that will directly impact the Soldiers decision to stay in the Army Reserve. She goes above and beyond to make sure all of her Soldier’s issues are solved and their needs are met. Every Soldier knows they can trust her and she will make sure they not only stay in the Army Reserve but they stay happy in the Army Reserve.
