Army Reserve Career Counselor of the Year
Sgt. 1st Class Matthew C. Miller is currently assigned to Army Reserve Careers Division, Special Missions, as the Officer Accessions Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) at the Fort. Dix United States Army Reserve Center (USARC), located at Fort Dix, NJ. In 2002, as a young Staff Sergeant, he was assigned to the 99th Regional Support Command to start his duty as a Retention and Transition NCO. He was assigned to the Annville USARC as the Army Reserve Career Counselor for 6 years and then assigned to the Lancaster USARC as the Area Leader 2nd Battalion, Area 4 for 2 years.
Miller entered the Army in June 1993 where he served as a Military Police Officer at Camp Long, Korea and then at Fort Lee, VA till June 1998. After his completion of active duty, he joined the Reading Police Department in Reading, PA. In 1999, as a motivated Sergeant, he left the police department and came onto his first Active Guard/Reserve (AGR) tour as an Army Reserve Recruiter with the Harrisburg Recruiting Battalion, serving out of the Lebanon Recruiting Station located in Lebanon, PA.
He has completed Primary Development Leadership Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, Recruiting and Retention Course, Retention and Transition Course, Military Police school, DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing School, Custom Doppler Traffic Radar Operation Course, Combat Lifesaver Course and Basic Army Combative Trainer Course.
His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation medal with 6 oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with 5 Oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal 4th Award, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Servicer Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Driver’s Badge 2nd award, Gold Recruiter badge with 3 sapphires, and the Recruiter Ring.
Miller has been married for 16 years and has two children.
