Sgt. 1st Class Vanderlaan serves as a 79V Army Reserve Career Counselor with the Army Reserve Careers Division, 10th Battalion. Sgt. 1st Class Vanderlaan has been in the Army for 9 years and has served in numerous assignments arid/or deployments.
Sgt. 1st Class Vanderlaan is MOS qualified as 42A Human Resources NCO, 79V Army Reserve Career Counselor, 79V Accessions Career Counselor and holds an ASI of SR Master Resiliency Trainer. He is also Combat Lifesaver qualified and has completed NCOES Courses; WLC,BNCOC (Phases I & II), Battle Staff (Phase I), and Combatives (Level I&II). A native of Belding Michigan, Sgt. 1st Class Vanderlaan is married with 2 dogs and will soon be pursuing a master’s degree. He currently has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Olivet College in Criminal Justice and Psychology.
Sgt. 1st Class Vanderlaan’s personal interests are hunting, motorcycle riding, bicycling, college football (University of Michigan), traveling, physical fitness, MMA/Jiu Jitsu, SCUBA diving, and spending time with his family.
His short-term goals are to gain valuable MOS experience and knowledge in the field as a 79V ARCC within the next year IOT become very proficient in his duties. He works diligently to achieve 100%+ in all of his missions. He would also like to complete Senior Leadership and Battle Staff NCOES courses. Some of his long-term goals include completion of his coursework for a master’s degree, attendance and completion of any ASI/SQI/Competition training available. He would ultimately like to become a valuable resource for the Army and military community as a professional Soldier in whatever capacity that may be.
